For applications where size, efficiency, and output ripple are critical factors, the MAX8640Y/MAX8640Z step-down converters are the ideal choice. Leveraging a unique PWM control scheme, these converters optimize the switching frequency to achieve high efficiency with minimal external components, while ensuring low output ripple voltage under varying load conditions. The MAX8640Z, operating at up to 4MHz, allows the use of a small 1µH inductor and 2.2µF output capacitor. In comparison, the MAX8640Y, with a maximum switching frequency of 2MHz, delivers enhanced efficiency while supporting compact 2.2µH and 4.7µF components. With a guaranteed output current of up to 500mA and ultra-low typical quiescent current of 28µA, these converters deliver superior performance. The factory-preset output voltages from 0.8V to 2.5V eliminate the need for external feedback components, streamlining the design process and reducing complexity
